Overview

Chonluten is a very short lab-made peptide (three amino acids) from Vladimir Khavinson's Russian 'peptide bioregulator' series, aimed at the lungs and airways. In Russia it is sold as a dietary supplement, not a medicine. The research is mostly cell studies, and good human trials are missing.

How it works

Proposed, not established. Like the other Khavinson peptides, it is suggested to act on gene activity inside cells. In a human monocyte/macrophage cell line (THP-1) it increased programmed cell death of the monocytes, switched on the STAT1 signaling pathway, and lowered release of the inflammatory messengers TNF and IL-6 after a bacterial-toxin challenge 2. Whether this happens in the human body is unknown.

What research shows

  • Cell study (THP-1 human monocytes/macrophages; Italian–Russian team including Khavinson, 2022): Chonluten reduced TNF and IL-6 release under inflammatory stimulation, roughly doubled monocyte apoptosis, and reduced monocyte sticking to activated blood-vessel cells 2.
  • A 2020 review by the developers says it improved standard therapy in patients with chronic bronchitis with an asthmatic component, but gives no patient numbers or trial details 3.
  • No controlled human trial with published data was found.
  • Most work comes from the Khavinson group and its collaborators; independent replication is scarce.

Doses studied in people

No verified dose from a published controlled human trial; supplement-label directions are not trial data.

Read this first: these are the amounts given to participants in published studies or written on official prescribing labels, reported for reference. They are not recommendations. Trial doses were chosen for specific patients under medical supervision, and a dose that is safe in one person can be harmful in another.

Vial math

Many research vials hold 5 or 10 mg of powder. This table shows how much ends up in each mark on a U-100 insulin syringe for common amounts of added liquid. It is arithmetic only, not a dose.

Safety

  • No formal human safety studies have been published; long-term safety is unknown.
  • The Russian supplement entry lists hypersensitivity, pregnancy and breastfeeding as contraindications 4.
  • Unregulated 'research' products sold elsewhere may vary in purity and content.

History

Developed at the St. Petersburg Institute of Bioregulation and Gerontology 1. A Russian supplement product under the name Хонлутен (Chonluten) holds a 2023 dietary-supplement registration, owned by the company Garmonia 4.

Common questions

Is Chonluten a drug?

Not in the US, where it is not FDA-approved 5. In Russia it is registered as a dietary supplement, not a medicine 4.

What does the evidence show?

Mainly lab work, such as lower inflammatory signals in human immune cells grown in a dish 2. Developer reviews mention use in bronchitis patients, but without published trial data 3.

Is Chonluten banned in sport?

It is not named on WADA's 2026 list, but non-approved substances generally fall under the S0 'prohibited at all times' rule 6.

What are the known risks?

Human safety has not been formally studied. The Russian supplement listing advises against use in pregnancy, breastfeeding or with hypersensitivity 4.
