Prostamax
Also called ProstaMax, KEDP peptide, Lys-Glu-Asp-Pro, prostate peptide bioregulator
Prostamax is a small lab-made peptide (four amino acids) from Vladimir Khavinson's Russian 'peptide bioregulator' series, named for the prostate. Online sellers promote it for enlarged prostate, but the published research is mainly lab work on chromosomes in blood cells. In June 2026 the FDA warned a US seller that Prostamax marketed with prostate claims is an unapproved new drug.
Overview
Prostamax is a small lab-made peptide (four amino acids) from Vladimir Khavinson's Russian 'peptide bioregulator' series, named for the prostate. Online sellers promote it for enlarged prostate, but the published research is mainly lab work on chromosomes in blood cells. In June 2026 the FDA warned a US seller that Prostamax marketed with prostate claims is an unapproved new drug.
How it works
Proposed, not established. In cultured lymphocytes from elderly people, Prostamax loosened condensed chromatin, including structural heterochromatin near the centromere of chromosome 1, which the authors interpret as reactivating age-silenced genes 234. No study verified here shows a direct effect on prostate tissue or urinary symptoms in people.
What research shows
- Cell study (lymphocytes from donors aged 75–88, 2004): Prostamax activated ribosomal genes and decondensed pericentromeric heterochromatin on chromosome 1 2.
- Cell studies (human lymphocytes, 2004 and 2012): KEDP induced 'deheterochromatinization' (unpacking) of chromatin in cells from old individuals 43.
- No controlled human trial of Prostamax for prostate enlargement or prostatitis was verified in this review.
- Research comes almost entirely from the Khavinson group and its collaborators.
Doses studied in people
No verified dose from a published controlled human trial; doses circulating online are not trial-derived.
Read this first: these are the amounts given to participants in published studies or written on official prescribing labels, reported for reference. They are not recommendations. Trial doses were chosen for specific patients under medical supervision, and a dose that is safe in one person can be harmful in another.
Vial math
Many research vials hold 5 or 10 mg of powder. This table shows how much ends up in each mark on a U-100 insulin syringe for common amounts of added liquid. It is arithmetic only, not a dose.
| Vial | Liquid added | Concentration | Per unit (0.01 mL) | |

Safety
- No formal human safety studies have been published; long-term safety is unknown.
- FDA noted that injectable unapproved products like those in its 2026 warning letter pose particular public-health risks 5.
- Unregulated 'research' products may vary in purity, sequence and content.
Report side effects of any drug or product to the FDA through MedWatch. For a possible poisoning in the US, call Poison Control at 1-800-222-1222.
Legal status
- FDA
- Not FDA-approved. FDA warning letter to Wholesale Peptide (June 17, 2026) states Prostamax sold with claims such as treating enlarged prostate (BPH) and improving bladder control is an unapproved new drug, and that 'research use only' labeling does not change this 5.
- Compounding
- Not listed in any category of FDA's 503A bulk drug substance nominations (list updated May 14, 2026), so it has no recognized route for US pharmacy compounding 7.
- Sports (WADA)
- Not named on the 2026 List. If it has no current government approval as a human medicine anywhere, it would fall under S0 (non-approved substances, prohibited at all times). Confirm with your anti-doping organization 8.
- Other
- Developer material claims Russian Ministry of Health adoption 6; no current Russian drug registration was verified in this review.
Rules change often. See Legal status of peptides for how these categories work.
History
Developed at the St. Petersburg Institute of Bioregulation and Gerontology; the institute's own material lists it among five synthetic peptides it says were adopted by the Russian Ministry of Health, a claim not independently verified 6. Chromatin studies were published in 2004–2012 234. On June 17, 2026, FDA issued a warning letter to the US seller Wholesale Peptide over Prostamax and Gonadorelin 5.
Common questions
Is Prostamax approved for enlarged prostate (BPH)?
No. In a June 2026 warning letter, FDA called Prostamax sold with BPH and bladder-control claims an unapproved new drug 5.
What does the research show?
Is Prostamax banned in sport?
It is not named on WADA's 2026 list, but non-approved substances generally fall under S0, prohibited at all times 8.
What are the known risks?
Human safety has not been formally studied. FDA has flagged injectable unapproved peptide products as a particular public-health risk 5.
